Peruvian Food Culture: Exploring the Best Restaurants and Local Cuisine

The Peruvian food culture cannot be understated. Not only do they have some of the worlds top restaurant’s but even the fruits and vegetable’s in the grocery stores are better.

The restaurants in Peru all take great pride in the meals they serve. Food is fresh, not from frozen, presented with care and pride. I was constantly amazed with the Ceviche, Tiradito, Pollo … everything I tried. Even the basic Peruvian rotisserie pollo & papas fritas was amazing.

I had a number of things for the first time, anticuchos corazon, goat, black sea urchin, Octopus, Alpaca, Cuy, Aguaymanto, Lúcuma, Chirimoya, Granadilla, Aguaje … all fresh.

Some favourites are Ceviche & Tiradito, Palta Rellena, Lomo Saltado, Causa, Rocoto Relleno … well everything I had.

Watch the two episodes Anthony Bourdain did in Peru. Parts Unknown & No Reservations. My tourist guide in Peru quoted it a lot trying to seem smart.

Here are some of the restaurant’s I was able to try. I did not have a single bad meal. Listed in no particular order, and this is not a full list.
